A while back I did a C/S app with VFP against SQL Server. I tend to remember that I simply changed the properties in the view designer, where I mapped each SQL Server datetime column to VFP date (go to view designer, open the view, in the fields selection area click Properties and make your changes there). You do lose the time stamp in the process (I think), but at least you can then treat the dates in the view as regular VFP dates.

Let me know if this doesn't work -- I can dig up the app and take another look at how I dealt with this issue.
