hi Mike,
>>Interestingly enough, that is
excatly what we are doing and plan on doing in the foreseeable future. I'd be interested in your 'take' on this. Perhaps a separate thread?
>
>Just so I understand... you plan on running mission ctritical apps over the net?
Yup. Without the Internet our model will not work, plain & simple.
>
>Maybe we have to define Mission critical.
Probably a good idea.. <g>
> One example is a debate Karl Peterson and I had on this, he said this some of his stuff goes up with the NASA space shuttles. If that were the case, I wouldn't rely on an Internet connection to do things.
*chuckle*
I'm with you on that. We're not
that critical...
>
>I'm also talking about consumers and users being two different companies. For example, I wrote the Timecard WS, and thousands of compaines around the world hit it.
Right. We're going to be hooking up several companies together. In a sort of generic way.
>
>So would you trust your missions ctritical apps to third parties over the web? I thought you made your POV pretty clear earlier!
Glad I did and I meant ever bit of what I said. It's a different story if we build the app IMO though. We're building the back end and the various front ends and the connector(s). That's why I've been so busy lately so I haven't had time to harrass you sufficiently - though I see others have stepped up to the proverbial plate.. *gd&rvvf*

>My "take" in my last message was small modules on the net hosted and written by third parties I subscribe to that I can use with very little resoureces.
Sure. We are actually thinking seriously about providing some web services to our clients but as you may have noticed in a prior thread/message I specifically asserted that I would
never ever put my clients in a position where they would have to rely on a third party's web service. That's too risky. If
I provide the service and have the requisite control over it, then ok, but no third party stuff. That's why I think web services will mostly be private to begin with.
The next couple of months will tell if we're on the right track. If we are I may just be able to do a demo at a future DevCon.. <g>
Best,
DD
