Thanks again for your offline help! For anyone else who might get into this situation, here's what we did:

It turns out the 2nd record in the SCX file looked wierd. It appears that record was the one that was corrupted. We deleted the record, then PACKed the SCX (it did NOT work without PACKing).

At this point, the SCX could be opened again as MODIFY FORM without the error. Whew!

However, the objects on one of the pageframes were lost. All my method code was saved though.
