>>>Ok, now it's becomming more convoluted... I need to have WSH installed on the local machine? I guess I'm not seeing how using WSH is better way to load an application EXE than just using Foxpro code itself compiled in it's own EXE. How do I ensure WSH is installed on all the hundreds of PCs involved in an update? Do I need to include code that installs WSH? How does the VBS file execute? Is it automatically done when it is first detected on the hard drive of the local machine? Do you realize now how much I don't know about this?

There's a script generator that John Koziol and I wrote that's available in the download section, and can handle a number of options automatically. You might want to look at that also.

I take it by the nature of the this thread, that you're relatively new to scripting. I suggest that a good place to start is the 5 part series on the WSH (beginning September, 2000) that Ed and I wrote and appeared in the VFUG newsletter. It's available on-line at www.vfug.org. You might also want to look at the post-script article that I wrote and appeared there earlier this year. It contains some updated information.

The first article in the series deals with such issues as how to tell if it's installed, gives resources for additional information and so on. Ed's sig block also contains a number of useful links for you to check out.

What both Ed and I do as a matter of course in an installation is install it if it's not present. It's too valuable a tool, and the additional effort to get it installed pays dividends for itself since I can also use its functionality from within VFP to easily do things that would be difficult otherwise.
George
