How power deregulation was carried out in California is an example of how not to do it! I recall one guy that got $10 million in funding and set up a business in his home. He spent all the money on advertising to get customers. All you had to do is create a business (you are a power buyer) get a customer, buy power (real time pricing helps to make a good profit), collect money from the customer and pay the supplier. You have no need of anything but a telephone and a means to set up customer accounts.

This guy went belly up because he could not attract enough customers, and his story was on TV. There were hundreds of such "companies". It is all too sick and just another example of greed. In fact the whole issue makes me sick.
