Since it didn't exist in VFP 6 at all, I'm guessing it was significantly faster in VFP 7. ;-)

Calvin Hsai (VFP Lead Developer) demonstrated Rick Strahl's wwXML utility at a DevCon keynote. He then showed the same functionality using VFP's new implementation and yes, it was a helluva lot faster. The reason being that Rick did his entirely in VFP and Calvin had the benefit of doing it in the underlying VC++ code.
