Does anybody out there know of a 252-item limit on ComboBoxes?

I have a VFP 5 combo with about 300 items from a Table and selecting the item which has it's ListIndex=253 generates random error messages.

The cbo has the following properties set :-
RowSource = Table.Field
RowSourceType = 6
