Confused about remote connections
Hi,
In the old days (FP Dos) I kept (free) tables in the file server. The program also resided in the server and ran in each terminal.
I now will be using VFP with a DBC which connects to SQL Server which accesses databases. I am confused about what should be where and where should things be defined.
1) So far I have found that the SQL databases *must* reside in the machine that has the SQL server, right? They cannot be in a separate file server, correct?
2) I believe the DBC can reside in a different machine than the SQL server since that is the idea of remote views. So, it should be able to reside in a file server, as can the executable program, no?
3) Now, if #2 is correct and the DBC contains a connection that points to the database through SQL Server, and that connection refers to a DSN, where should that DSN be defined? In the machine that contains the DBC or in the terminal running the program?
TIA,
Alex
