I suggest you add your suggestions to the Toledo wish list here on the UT. This is the preferred method of submitting ERs to the Fox team.

>I generally use VFP as a tool for designing data driven GUIs. I have been trialling VFP7 since release in the UK. The following comments are constructive criticisms designed to provoke productivity improvements in the developer's VFP environment.

>Screen Layout
>
>The following windows can now be docked: document view, data session, properties, command window. The first three can be docked on top of each other, each window called up from a tab. All very well, but in practice the windows irritatingly move around, open and close, forget settings, and invariably display the most unhelpful one in any given scenario.
>
>Firstly, I would like to be able to save window layouts. Secondly, I would like default layouts for different situations - eg editing code, form layout, project management. Thirdly, the windows need to be rethought to work well with docking. Eg, make the project window dock; Make the data session window configurable (I never use relations, so I would like to be able to hide that panel).
>
>Eg: I open a project. I would like to see the docked project window with the data session docked beneath it. I open a form. The properties window comes to the front of the project window. I open a method on the form. The document view window comes to the front Etc. (All configurable as other people will want different things.)

>This new addition to VFP7 is another flawed implementation. It does not remember sort order. Incremental searching is broken (ie type "pr" to go to a procedure beginning with the letters "pr").

>Code editing

>Whilst the addition of intellisense is clearly Microsoft's attempt to improve code editing, there are a number of features that would suit my needs much better: Locate end/start brace (at will rather than the current implementation); intellisense on demand, using the right click 'quick info' option; expand/contract construct (ie a plus/minus in the margin to hide long loops etc).
>
>I also find it annoying that I need to set the font size for code editing for every single type of code window (.prg, methods, menu code etc). Surely this should be configurable for all code from the syntax colouring dialog.

>It is barely worth mentioning that these have not been improved significantly since Foxpro version 2, since a million other people have vainly done so already.

>Conclusion

>From browsing various wish lists, I know I am not the only one frustrated by the above, not least since these kind of improvements were the great promise of VFP7. I am not interested in hearing about VFP8. Most other developers will support and improve a current release for a few months at least before forcing us to pay out more money for features we either never use, or that have been included only to improve the "What's new list" for marketing purposes.
>
>VFP7 is in desperate need of a decent service pack to consolidate the half finished features, as well as fixing the bugs that crop up regularily on the user groups, but none of the official Microsoft lists.
