If the tables belong to a database they might have some stored procedures on it, and a lot of rules (triggers). You can follow whats going on, if you try to open the database and see what's happen in it code:

For instance: If you try to open a table MYTABLEA and that table was previously defined as part of some relationship with MYTABLEB and MYTABLEC, VFP will open all the related tables.
