Thats what I usually do. Keep in mind, if there are inherited settings on the FTP directory, putting files in there will change the security of those files. When you move the files out of the FTP dir to wher eyou need them, the security goes with them, so remember to clear those off.

FWIW, if Remote Desktop is avialable, I'd use that.
