>That's an interesting question. Autism is not very well understood. It is a very wide spectrum of disorders, and no two individuals have exactly the same symptoms. For some, there is no cure, although the symptoms can be controlled. There are cases of severely autistic individuals who were able to overcome their disabilities and lead remarkable lives. In the case of mercury poisoning, the key is to catch it early. Andrew just turned three, so if his tests come out positive for mercury poisoning, there is a process of chelation to remove the toxins from his developing brain and spinal cord. Although the damage has been done, his developing neurons can find ways to cope with the assault on his nervous system. The key to treating all types of autism is early intervention. Andrew is very high functioning, although he lost whatever language he aquired. When he was a baby he figured out how to turn on my computer. I used to come home from work sometines and find him asleep on my keyboard
>with the mouse in one hand and all my folder files and desktop in complete disarray. (Read some of my early posts a year ago of how proud I was of my son.) He still has not lost that interest in the computer but he doesn't know how to work the mouse anymore. It's like I'm starting over from when he was 15 mos old sometimes. Slowly, through painstaking hard work, he is regaining a little bit of his vocabulary, but he tends to zone out and dissappear into his own world where I can't reach him. I am very heartbroken and discouraged, but I haven't given up hope.

>Needless to say, most of my resources will be devoted to saving him. Whatever it takes, I will do. I am also organizing a full-on, frontal assualt against the AMA, the drug companies and the federal government for the criminal and irresponsible decision to put mercury in vaccinations. They will know my name and they will fear me!

>Spread the word. Be sure to ask your pediatrician about it, and, above all, be careful of what you give your children. One man's meat is another man's poison.

Jim;

I wish your son, you and your family the best. I remember those posts about your son using your computer. It reminded me of our son and daughter at the same age. Being positive at a time like this is imperative. I know you and your family will do everything to resolve this problem and it will bring you closer together. There is much we learn as individuals when a problem strikes us.

We hope to hear of your son’s progress as time passes.

Tom
