>Just about all grocery stores (including Albertson's, who used to brag about low prices without a card) have gone to that here...I find it very annoying

>>I don't do that either. One supermarket chain here has these stupid discount cards. I refuse to shop there because they ask too many personal questions on the form. They don't need to know that Craig bought item XYZ in order to stock it. All they need to know is that item XYZ was purchased.

Steve;

I was visiting our daughter in Los Angeles a few months ago. We went to Ralph’s to get something for dinner and I had $15 in my wallet. I added up the cost defined on the products and went to the cash register. It came to $25.68, so I said something must be wrong! No, the stated prices were for customers with Ralph Cards. My daughter said, “my mother has a Safeway Card – does that count”? The lady at the cash register said, “No, but I will give you the discount anyway. $13.98 please”!

Why can’t supermarkets be fair and forget the “discount card”. They know what they sell without the card being required.
