Forget it: I got my problem solved. And thanks for your help.

However, in casy anybody is interested, I still use VFP 6 (sigh). But, showing the debugger in the VFP parent window does show the desired expression, as you state. I had misunderstood, kept the debugger in a separate window, but both visible, i.e., not maximized. This proved to be futile.
