I'd guess that it had to do with the inclusion of support for the BIF_NONEWFOLDERBUTTON parameter added to the Shell components; I'd check the MSDN documentation for the Shell.Application object.
The current documentation doesn't list all of the extended values supported by the SHBrowseForFolder() API call; you need to get your hands on the new .H files for VC++ 7 in VS.Net (still in beta at the moment) to find all the new gimmicks.
