Users calls the main.exe via a shortcut icon (to main.exe in NT server) on their desktop. I use VFP tables which are placed in the same NT server.

What I do is have a single executable (instead of several small modules), shared over the network. This makes upgrading easy.

So I can do the upgrade without throwing out users, I copy the first version of the executable as MyApp_0001.exe, the second as MyApp_0002.exe, etc.; a small loader program (available upon request) loads the one with the highest number.

It obviously takes longer to load the EXE over the network, but I found this to be a minor concern.
