In order to get this message across, MS needs to step up and send a message (like ENCLUDING a small foot print Database server for development). It's now about finding/using a good database server but about ways in making Visual Foxpro more attractive as a development package.

I've read in different published acticles that MS is in fact working on a lite-version of SQL Server that is easier to maintain by non-technical persons. If this is true, what would be greater than including it with Visual Foxpro as an Enterprise version to bring to light C/S capabilities of Visual Foxpro???

John,

Your are right.I hope Redmond is online on UT listening our calls and the SQL server team definitely at work on SQL Lite because the bundling to VFP would definitely help clarify VFP position in the rich client-server DB arena (vs famous duos like Powersoft-Sybase and DELPHI-Interbase)...

My reference to Sybase Anywhere is my way to say : yes it works and there's a market for VFP client + midsize "workgroup" server.

However I have a feeling is that most FOX programs tend to stay by their beloved fast and flexible ISAM engine. Definitely a strategic advantage for those of use addressing specific kinds of datastores (including the strategic HTML services or local lan-based decision decision-support tools) but a difficulty for those of us trying to address the more traditional DB market with VFP as a front-end.

May be the SQL server Lite and adequate MS Marketing support will trigger the move. I hope you are right but is there not a risk of confusion with VB "enterprise tools"?

We shall see what the Redmond gurus will decide to do and say to support our community (i discovered it is a big one, thanks to UT). VFP is a WONDERFUL C/S package when you just use VFP engine to create cursors buffering your data locally and fully rely on the server for serious DB activity. But how many Foxies currently use is this way or intend to in the comings months ?
