I have a combo on a form that I may or may not want to select an item from. However, if the combo ever gets the focus it selects the first item by default, which I don't want.

Ideally I want it to look and behave like a dropdown list, but with the option to not select anything. I tried setting it to a combo but it still selected an item by default.

Please don't tell me I have to manually add a "Not applicable" item.
