Yes, this falls into the "Doh!" category. I got sidetracked on another project and when I looked at this again last night I realized what the problem was. While I was testing my validation, I put:

SET STEP ON
DODEFAULT()

in the Save() method of my bizobj. I kept tracing through the code, completely overlooking the problem ;-)
