John, this won't help either, though it may a little :
IMHO there are not that many bugs around in VFP, but there is a lot to understand before one can cope with all. Just don't give up, and don't get frustrated;

I've been working with fox for some 15 years now, and I put one question at UT so far. This doesn't say I don't have them, but 99,99 % of them can be reasoned out. For you as the beginner ;) it may be all too much in one time. Not your fault, but some given fact. Just take it easy and try to "know" that the product is really beautiful. Just give yourself the time to get the hang of it... At each error solved (!), try to reason for yourself what went wrong. As to my own experience, it was me doing something wrong, and last years I have this as a fact. So my mentality : it 'll probably be me, and in 99,99 % of cases it is. This must be equal to 99,99 % of UT-messages, and many of them are about not understanding what's happening in the kernels of VFP. Do we have to know then ? IMO yes, because it makes life much much easier.
We use VFP5 (so far) and a 5M lines of code app; I'm really honest if I say that the number of real bugs found by us is less 10. Really. However, many many things are unhandy, and all these things have to be worked around. And yes, this takes time ... BTW, the fact that we found few bugs only, doesn't say they aren't there, and in fact there are tonnes. But who encounters them all ?

Sincerely HTH,
Peter
