I did know a consultant once who worked 20 hours straight on an emergency project. They just kept feeding him coffee and candy to keep him going, although I'm sure he slept in the next day.

I've never seen a client work a consultant for more than 10 hours - they can't hang-in longer than that them selves and they can't leave you to "hold down the fort", either (unless it's an extremely trusting client). So I think this method of billing is a win-win situation.
