What you might want to consider is to subclass a text box, and then add a frame behind/around it whose border color is red. Add a property such as 'isaerror' and then when whatever causes 'isaerror' to be .T. the border for the field would be red.

I did something like this for a data entry department that wanted people to know where their cursor was. If the field had focus, the green border would show, and then go away when it lost focus. Pretty neat visually.
