I'd say it's VB style too :)
text1 has a hierarchy. If it's directly on form (not within a container etc) then you would reference it as :

thisform.text1

It's a member of the form. To make it easier while coding rightclick and select 'Objectlist'. VFP would write the hierarchy for you :)

BTW use text1.value rather than text (though you might)
