You really need to divide your requrements between technical and business requirements.

If security is an important issue, to the extent that the database needs to support some sort of security features, VFP will not be an option. Ironically, Access would pass this test - but would most likely fail on the technical/scaleability issues. Something like SQL Server in this case would be better.

If on the other hand, you have overcome the business reasons for choosing a database backend, then you can tackle the technical issues of scaleabiltiy, etc. Based on the information you have provided, it is hard to give a concrete answer about whether VFP meet your needs. For example, from a local processing standpoint, VFP - more likely than not - will work. But, if you then said from a remote client - you needed to access the POS terminals, then I would say you may run into the problems.

In spite of how much of a slam dunk the answer appears to be, it usually is not that straightforward. Be sure to analyze the scenario from all angles..
