One company was involved with direct marketing. The owner would come in early and have a “vision” of how to promote a new scheme to gain sales. We had ten tiers of “sellers/buyers”, and commissions would be accumulated according to the owner’s “vision”. We learned to comment out last weeks business rules and save them. When necessary we could revert back to an appropriate set of rules in a few minutes as these “visions” had a recurring theme.

< rof,l > and < lol >!!!! Actually, that is one of the times that I comment out code myself. The last time I wroked as a wage slave, I had a boss who was exactly as you describe. So my comments above the commented out code always read something like this:

*** On yada yada date, the boss said he didn't want it dome like this anymore

Inevitably, the code in question would be uncommented and a new comment added that looked like this:

*** On yada yada date, the boss decided that he needed it to be done like this again

I am sure the person who inherited by work has had some good laughs reading my comments < g >

So by all means if you can afford to be neat do so. As for myself, I refuse to get upset if I see code that was commented out or do so myself. Perhaps that is one of the reasons my wife and I have been married for 36 years! :)

I said it was a pet peeve, but I didn't say I was anal about it < vbg >. And if you are using Source Control ( and if you aren't, why not????? ), it doesn't matter anyway. You can always go back through the history and retrieve a previous version < s >.
