Your risk was high :( Interesting I installed it as an upgrade in 2 other machines and they don't show any degradation compared to mine (clean install). Actually I didn't have any unusual problems with clean and upgrade installs (but I was sure their previous w98 installations were eligible for upgrade - don't ask how. After so many years in HW I think I only use my sense and can correct things if I reach the computer:)
