Yes. See discussion at
http://fox.wikis.com/wc.dll?Wiki~MsComm32~VFP on this very matter. With the inclusion of VFPCOM in VFP7, I don't know if this is still an issue.
As an aside, is there any reason for the form to visible?
>My problem is that I need to use the mscomm control programmatically without it being on a form. The app will be run in BOTH 2.6 and VFP so it needs to be compatible in both. I block out the code with the version check, but I won't display a form to the user. I will be adding the code to one of the events in a 2.6 screen instead so the rest of the code for the 2.6 version can remain the same. So far, every example I have found places the mscomm control (as an olecontrol) on a form. Any ideas?
