Thanks for the discussion. I think I'll need to do some independent testing myself. I think that my problem may be the interaction between VFP and ADO. My main problem was getting strings of type varchar2 from an Oracle db into these form properties I mentioned. As far as Oracle is concerned there is no padding and even when I checked the length of the data coming out of the ado parameter objects they weren't padded.

Anyway, I'll do some playing about with SET EXACT and ==.
