There are a number of us that advocate this approach and have expressed it on different forums. This technique works with any backend but my personal preference is to use a character field, as opposed to a memo field. It will give you greater system stability with smaller file sizes. So for VFP, VB or ASP, this is the way I like to work.

I know other developers who like to do it the hard way (save to a General Field or Memo file). This is a great way to reference graphics, word documents, excel spread sheets, etc.
