Opps! My bad, Joe!
You're right. I read too quickly and saw 'login from...' and didn't think 'remotely' but 'same box'.

To run the console telnet works for me. FTP is too restrictive.
VNC works if you want to run KDE or some other desktop running on Xwindows, but it will be choppy if the connection, CPUs, or video drivers aren't very fast.
Samba, as you know, presents server shares to a windows network.

Which one? Your question is germaine.
