KMail, using SMTP.

KNode is an excellent newsgroup reader.

Getting comfortable with the menu structure of KDE will take awhile. To make things easier you can create desktop icons for the apps you run a lot, like Screen Capture, Kmail and KNode, Netscape, Motzilla, etc...

You can right mouse on a blank area of the screen and choose the "Application" icon. Then fill in the various text boxes. The last tab is where the mime is selected. Most of the time it is /xwindows executable. If you make a mistake use the right mouse & delete option and try again.
