I would like our installation to establish file associations for proprietary files produced by our application.
I am trying to determine if file associations get installed on a system wide basis and/or if they are (or can be) user specific.
Our software may be installed by administrators or general users. I would like to make sure that when our software gets installed by an administrator, our file associations get registered for ALL users. (Similar in intent to the Setup.exe /V"ALLUSERS=2" option)
My understanding is that InstallShield LE (as bundled with VFP 7) does not support the creation of file associations so I'm guessing we're going to have to do this manually at application startup time, i.e. check to make sure our application specific file associations are in place and if not, automatically register them.
I'm wondering if WSH provides support for registering file associations? I've read through the WSH materials and didn't see support for this capability.
Any suggestions or feedback? I'm also willing to do the reading/research if someone can point to the appropriate reference material/background on registering file associations.
Thanks!
