Thanks for pointing me to the FAQ. It was EXTREMELY helpful.

I had read that it was possible to SELECT on SELECT results. YOur example was good enough to get me started.

According to FoxPro, doing my query in 5 stages takes only 0.01 to 0.02 seconds -- fast enough!

Using the the query results, I completely avoid the tempation to introduce a repeating field and violate normalization rules.
