If an app that uses several data files crashes and the workstation is still runnig - NT server has the data files opened for a period of time and it seems to me that sometimes the files are reported as exclusive opened. I do not know if the period of time can be shortened - sorry.
I had similar problems. But they gone when client upgraded server to W2000 (server machine was also changed so maybe it was ont OS but network hardware problem - on another Win NT servers I had no such problems)
