Actually, it's 'setup', not 'linuxconf'.
I agree with you about not needing to reinstall, but I also learned the hard way (after the second installation) to install EVERYTHING on any and all Linux boxes. The loss of disk space is more than offset by the avoidance of hassle when dependancy errors pop up. That's probably been the one thing that has been most disappointing about Linux...there is such a huge assortment of libraries that are often assumed to be present by the application's developers.
Enough venting.
