Hi Folks -
A bit of a different one. My kid wants to start programming PC desktop games. I have no idea what advise to give him as to what tools to use, platform etc. His looking to include some exstensive graphics and the likes. He is a novice so I am looking for something that he can start with and possibly expand on later on.

Any advise would help.
