John,

Excellent link.

I totally agree with everything he had to say. His points about XBase hit home when I was looking for work a couple years ago during the boom years. As I mentioned in a prior post I reached a point where 90% of the recruiters who saw my resume, heavy on VFP, told me most of the VFP work in Los Angeles was helping to rewrite apps in VB.

When I was looking for work a couple years ago, the only VFP work I saw was for places I had worked prior. And I left them for a lot of good reasons. It's kind of amazing that in a city the size of Los Angeles, I could talk to another developer, as I have with Jeff Pace from here, and when we discuss our job history, we both mention a lot of the same places.

When the calls started to come in they were all for SQL Server and Oracle work. At least my VFP experience was applicable because of SQL.

In my current situation I'm doing support for a large app written in VFP. But we all know that the next version is going to be written in something else. Sticking with VFP is not even an option.

PF
