Tell me, have you "picked any stars" lately?
How's your stockmarket portfolio doing? I urge you to examine your past record as a clairvoyant.
I've seen stars: I have made a catalog of MSDN Journal Page-1 articles back to 1993, when I first started subscribing. From these issues I also have many colorful 2-page pullouts of object models of future ersatz-stars that are now defunct technology, gone. I can only guess at the volume of wasted money and wasted development caused by following the prevailing wisdom of the time.
Geeze, John, it sounds like you're implying that predicting the future is a matter of resussitating and wagging mid-1980's MBA charts from the Boston Consulting group.
But back to the point at hand: You take but two factors in technology selection, just two of dozens. You place them in opposition and make a half-baked "valid generalization" about it. It's pure horse cak.
