http://www.wri.org/facts/data-tables-forests.htmlThis shows that in the USA tree cover has increased by 1/4% over the years between 1990 and 1995. A wild extrapolation would suggest as much as a 10% increase in tree cover in the USA during the last 200 years. Eco groups rant a lot about 'old growth' losses, but never mention newly planted trees or nurseries, giving a self-serving and unbalanced picture.
However, in 3rd world countries massive population increases have resulted in wide spread deforestation, which will only get worse as population pressures intensify. There is no solution to the problems caused by population pressures except reduced populations, simply because resources are renewable, except for trees, and they aren't planting new trees.
