Don't use the ActiveX control. If you're using VB .Net you should use the version of Crystal Reports that ships with Visual Studio .Net.
Under VS .Net, you can report using either an ADO .Net dataset or connect directly to the data. Search for Crystal Reports in VS .Net help to find out how to do this.

>how do you add a database field to a crystal report without connecting to a database and drag and dropping the field on the report? I will be programmatically creating an ADO dataset and binding it to the crystal report active x control using VB.NET. I am used to adding a text box and typing in the field name with the VFP report writer and I have no clue about crystal reports. Thanks for the help.
