When you right click on a web graphic it gives you the options of saving it in whatever format fits the file extension the file is named or a BMP. I don't know why someone would do this, but I have seen web sites that put graphics on a web page without a file extension at all. Your browser knows how to display it without the help of telling it the extension. That might be the problem.

It's an extra step, but Paint in Windows 2000 (I assume other versions of Windows too) can now save convert BMP files to JPG or GIF.
