I don't think there is any chance of corporations to change software religions.

I currently work supporting a VFP app that is used in an International Theatrical division in the entertainment field. The app resides here in Los Angeles, and in 40 countries. I was talking to a CIO at a party over XMas. I was describing the functionality and his reaction was something like, "ohh, thats interesting". Kind of a fake I'm interested. But when I told him the app was written in VFP, his eyes opened wide, "You mean Foxpro can do something like that??????".

Something dramatic would have to be added to VFP, and that's not going to happen. As you've noticed corporations have long since abandoned VFP. I've stated prior that starting 4 years ago, recruiters started telling me that all the VFP jobs they were receiving were to help rewrite an app in VB.

There would have to be some hugh fundamental flaws in .NET to make these folks to all of a sudden look at VFP again. And that flaw is not there.

>With the marketing job Microsoft has given to corporate America during the last 6 years towards VFP, it is a wonder the product still exists. Try to suggest to a corporate decision-maker that they should use VFP. I have had discussions with such individuals all over the San Francisco Bay Area who decides what tool his/her company will use. With the help of Microsoft sales types and others they have been convinced to not use VFP. Suddenly we have Ken Levy and VFP 7.0 with Web Services. What will the impact be of this combination? Well, the cry has been for VFP developers to “Upgrade”! Now, how do you get the corporate decision-makers to “change religion”?

>Personally, I think that VFP is not destined for a quick embrace from the corporate world. In fact I feel the opposite is true. VFP for the corporate world is not an option. You can give VFP all the features with all the acronyms available from Microsoft and it will not change the perception this product enjoys.

>I love VFP but use many other tools to earn a living and support my family. In fact I see a great future for those knowledgeable with and able to use .NET
