It is important to distinguish fact from opinion, in this case a minority opinion.
<<

So you are saying the majority opinion is that VFP is part of the future...

Could you substantiate this claim?

<<
If you polled the gurus in the community, or the MVPs, or the top 50 posters or the bottom 50 posters, or the people with curly hair in the community you would come out with a group of people who are enthused and positive about VFP.
<<

Of course, if you poll the most rabid and entusiastic people in the communiyt, of course you are going to get a positive opinion..

>Nobody can answer this for you.

No, but people can offer an informed advice..

>
Completely untrue. VFP has a higher profile both inside and outside of Microsoft.
<

Where is the higher profile outside of MS?
For that matter, where is the higher profile inside of MS?

I don't mean to belabor the point, but if you are going to say things like this in support of your position, I am going to ask you to support the premise.

You are doing nothing more than regurgitating marketing rhetoric here..

<
VFP is mentioned in more print media and more newsletters than this time last year.
>

For the most part, VFP gets a "passing" reference. I would not hang my hat on this...

>To continue...User groups are starting up or restarting all over the continent.

And the degree this has relevance is what?

>Our local user group is setting attendance records.

And this means what???

>>The Universal Thread continues to set records for its VFP forum.

So...

>>There are more FoxPro conferences now than ever.

There are? In 1993, there were approx 3000 people going to a Fox Devcon. There was FoxTeach and the Minneapolis show. In the past there more quality shows with more attendees....

>>There are more FoxPro magazines now than ever.

I count 2 (FPA and FoxTalk)- with steadly declining subscription rates. There used to be a Cobb newsletter. Unless of course, you are counting Code - which is not a FoxPro magazine. And, if you are counting the web-based magazines, I submit they go into a different category...

<<
There was a recent poll on the UT, and more new people started using VFP6 than any other version of VFP.
<<

This could be true. However, my guess is that a lot of people hanging in with FPW skipped VFP 3 and 5 and went directly to 6. In toto, it should not be construed as an increase in the usage of the product...

<<
Giving the stability and new XML features of VFP7, I believe this will continue with VFP7.
<<

I'll take this bet. What is your offer?

>
I disagree. Aside from JVP (not a dis to him) they are all swimming in the same direction and enthused.
>

All????? I would be careful about that statement... As for others swimming in the same direction and enthused - that does not prove much of anything - other than than some will always preach the party line...

>IMO. VFP has more distinct role in Microsoft than it has ever had.

What does this mean???? The worst player on a basketball team has a distinct role too - to ride the pine (not that I am trying to say that VFP is the worst player on the team) The point is - to say that VFP occupies a distinct role does not say anything...

<<
It is the non-CLR high level language. What is the CLR is a bust? VFP is sitting pretty. The importance part of .NET in my opinion is producing and consuming web services.
<<

Marketing BS....
