>A friend of mine graduated from College with a degree in SQA (Software Quality Assurance). The main speaker at the graduation ceremony was the President of a Major Software company, and a Ph.D. This gentleman had some good advice based upon his experience. He told us that in his working career he held 17 different jobs, nine of which no longer existed! He advised everyone to be engaged in continuing education for the rest of your life. I can think of nothing better to advise anyone.

Agreed, Tom. Continuing education in this business is imperative! I've always done that, although through circumstances beyond my control, I lost ground after FPW. I skipped VFP 3, 5 and now have 6. I can't get 7 unless it comes out of my own pocket, but I think for learning goals, for now, 6 will serve my purpose. As I think back, most computer technologies always had a short life (except for a few, which should have had a shorter life!).

>Being content is not an option for anyone these days. What seems secure today may not be here tomorrow. Keep on your toes and try to be at the right place at the right time. It is all a guessing game. So pray, be lucky or try to keep up with your education and job market trends – what ever works. All of these can be a wining combination!

It is a guessing game, but I'd like to at least play the odds. What are the odds that VFP will be a viable product for the next, say five years? Excellent, Good, Fair, Poor, Terrible (check one).
