Pete the time you spend learning VFP is not lost.
Most of the concept doing SQL statement can apply to Oracle or SQL Server, OOP concept will help you learn other language OOP and form design will help you know how to build good UI.
If you know VFP you will learn faster other language.
You can use UT to learn other language. This is how I learn.
