>I attempted to reinstall VFP7 on my development PC at home last night and ran into an interesting situation. After placing the VFP7 CD in the drive, the setup screen appeared, but when I clicked on the Install Visual FoxPro link, Norton Antivirus (version 8.00.58) detected a "Malicious Script" in the file G:\vfpstart.hta. Sounds pretty scary and I was hesitant to allow the script to proceed although it seems unlikely that a virus could have gotten onto the VFP7 CD. I guess I just need someone to reassure me that I can ignore the Norton warning and proceed with the reinstall.

>The reason for the reinstall in the first place is that I was having trouble installing the VFP7 SP1 on my home workstation. Earlier in the day I installed the SP1 on my workstation here at work with no problem. But at home when I attempt to install SP1, I get a Windows Installer dialog that says, "The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch." At that point I decided to try to reinstall VFP7 and ran into the above problem.

>Another curiosity about my VFP7 install at home: when I choose the "About Visual FoxPro" option on the menu, the dialog shows that the product is licensed to "Microsoft Corporatio (Engineering Prototype)" and the product ID is a long string of X's. I don't recall having any trouble with entering my name and the Product ID when I first installed VFP7 at several months ago. The version number is 07.00.0000.9262. The VFP CD that I have at home was purchased a couple of months before the one at work shortly after version 7 was released. Were there any problems of this sort with the very first CD's that were distributed? I am using Windows 2000 both at work and at home and haven't seen any of these problems on my work PC.

You need to open Norton and set the script blocking off in options. The VFP installation is not going to do anything scary to your machine. Norton just thinks it is.
