I don't have access to our e-mails re. the problem at the moment. But from memory using the MaxBlast s/w to resolve the size issue involved manually setting the BIOS to ignore the drive & then using the installation s/w so that the operating system saw the full sized drive - this means that it is not possible to boot from that drive. So you couldn't put the OS on that drive as per 5) in your original post.

(It may be worth checking any documentation that comes with MaxBlast, the BIOS upgrade did the trick for my brother, so we didn't look seriously at the s/w solution)
