>>Paul, I can't speak for Microsoft, but it's my opinion that they found almost everyone with VFP was doing development work - and needed the Professional edition. End users don't need a copy, since they can use an EXE provided by the developer. Relatively few end-users actually use VFP (command box). I have only 2 end-users that can even re-index a file or call up a browse screen with any reliability. None of the others have any need for VFP at all.

Hi,
Thanks for the info. A Microsoft sales rep. confirmed that there is only the professional edition in VFP 5.0.
Most of my clients would never use isue commands from the command window. However, there are a few of my clients who can use the query tools and write small programs with no problems. They will probably upgrade and justify the added expense by saying that the competitive upgrade price for VFP is about half the price of Cognos's Impromtu which is commonly used on that site. With VFP they get adhoc query capabilities plus the ability to write stand alone applications.
Thanks again,
Paul de Niverville
