My biggest concern is if I used one would I have the ability to code my own modules and tie them in or would that cause me a masive amount of pain. Any recomendations or warnings? Pros and Cons?

Hilmar;

Amen! I have used those same words verbatim. Additional advantages of a commercial application framework include such things as user groups, Internet forums where questions can be asked and answered as well as having a team resolve “anomaly” issues and creating updates as well as new versions. This allows the application developer to concentrate on customer needs and not “behind the scenes details".

Now if your client wants to pay you to develop a framework to create their application that is a horse of a different color. As long as we are talking billable hours go for it! But if not then the commercial framework is a great tool.

Gee, I wonder if I should write my own programming language? Hmmm…
