You probably have one of two problems here. The first, most likely problem is that the drives are out of relative alignment. Try installing the CD on another box - if it works, then the drive alignment is an issue.

A few older CD-ROM drives are not happy with some newer media, especially CD-RW media. If you burned the CD on a CD-RW disk, try burning it on a CD-R disk.

Finally, if you havew enough disk space, try copying the CD-ROM image to the hard drive before running the install.
